Dr. Maw Pin Tan is a Professor in Geriatric Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. She received her undergraduate medical and physician training in Nottingham, United Kingdom and her academic geriatrician training at Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom. She obtained an academic post at the University of Malaya in 2011, where she established the Falls and Syncope service at the University of Malaya Medical Centre in 2014. Maw Pin was also co-founder of the Ageing and Age-Associated Disorders Research Group and was Principal Investigator of the Malaysian Falls Assessment and Intervention Trial (MyFAIT) and the ongoing Life After Falls study. She is now the Principal Investigator of the nationwide Transforming Cognitive Frailty into Later-Life Self-Sufficiency (AGELESS) longitudinal study of ageing. Her passion to bring people together to solve problems has led to the 1st World Congress on Falls and Postural Stability in Kuala Lumpur in December 2019, where she was organizing chair supported by a scientific committee from the British Geriatric Society. Maw Pin is also Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian Society of Geriatric Medicine and the Honorary General Secretary of the College of Physicians of Malaysia.
